EAR HEALTH

Ear Health

Our Ear Health Clinic, supervised by our prescribing pharmacist uses TympaHealth innovative technology to detect problems associated with:

  • Ear Pain
  • Earache
  • Hearing loss or reduction
  • Recurrent or excess ear wax

Our otoscopy ear health service examines the internal structure of the ear and can detect not only wax but other issues such as ear drum perforations, retractions, scarring and infections.

We can take a video of the ear and if needed refer this to ENT specialists for further investigation. If we are comfortable to prescribe antibiotics sprays or other medicines, our prescribing pharmacists can provide this in-house.

What Are Common Ear Health Issues?

Common ear health issues include ear infections, earwax buildup, tinnitus, and hearing loss. Otitis media and otitis externa are infections that cause pain, itching, and swelling, while earwax buildup can lead to discomfort and hearing problems. Tinnitus involves ringing in the ears, and hearing loss can be gradual or sudden. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent complications and maintain ear health.

Effective Treatment and Expert Advice

Ear health issues can be uncomfortable and disruptive, but our pharmacists are here to help. They can provide you with the correct treatment, including pain relief medications, ear drops, earwax removal methods, and advice on hearing protection. With professional guidance, you can manage your symptoms effectively and ensure optimal ear health.

Self-Care Measures

In addition to professional treatment, you can take the following self-care measures to maintain and improve ear health:
For Ear Infections (Otitis Media and Otitis Externa):
– Pain Management: Use over-the-counter pain relievers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to alleviate pain and reduce fever.
– Keep Ears Dry: Avoid swimming and keep your ears dry to prevent further irritation.
For Earwax Buildup:
– Use Ear Drops: Use Olive Oil ear drops or spray to soften earwax for easier removal. DO NOT USE OTEX
– Avoid Inserting Objects: Do not insert cotton swabs or other objects into your ears to avoid pushing wax deeper.
For Tinnitus and Hearing Loss:
– Protect Ears: Use earplugs in noisy environments to protect your hearing.
– Limit Exposure to Loud Noises: Avoid prolonged exposure to loud noises and use hearing protection when necessary.
– Regular Check-Ups: Have regular hearing check-ups to monitor and address any changes in your hearing.
