NHS Prescriptions

If you need an NHS prescription dispensed urgently in Neath, our friendly team is ready to assist you as soon as you walk through the door of The Health Dispensary. We can dispense NHS prescriptions in Neath from your Doctor, Dentist, Prescribing Pharmacist, Hospital, Nurse and other registered prescribers usually within 20 minutes or less. We follow Standard Operating Procedures to allow consistency for all our customers.

  1. Prescription Validation

If you have a paper prescription or token, we will scan this into our computerised patient medication records system approved by the NHS, which stores your dispensing history with us. If you ever have a query, we can access what items you had dispensed on what date and time. We will check whether the prescription is valid, legal, and correct. For a handwritten prescription, we ensure it is transcribed correctly and any query raised with the prescriber if in doubt. Your safety is our first concern.

2. Clinical Check

Our Pharmacist, who is a highly trained and experienced professional, clinically checks every prescription before it is dispensed to ensure its safety for you. They will check if the dose is correct and appropriate and if it interacts with anything else you are taking. Please inform us if you have any allergies or medical conditions that affect the medicines you can take or if you have any specific requirements. Our Pharmacist’s expertise and attention to detail ensure that you receive the right medication for your needs.

3. Dispensing

Our team will start dispensing your NHS Prescription once our Pharmacist has clinically approved it. We verify all details and check whether your medication is in stock or if we might need to order it.

We deal with the full range of approved pharmacy wholesalers, so if we do not have a particular medicine in stock, we can usually obtain it for you the same day or the next day. Some medicines may be in short supply, but we can advise you on this when you bring in your prescription and suggest alternatives if needed. Specials can take longer to order, and we can advise you on how long this takes.

4. Accuracy Check

Our computer system, equipped with advanced barcode technology, ensures safety at each stage of the dispensing process. Our Accuracy-Checking Technicians also help guarantee that the right medicine is for the right person with the right information, providing you with a sense of security.

5. Receive your Medicines

You are welcome to wait in our pleasant pharmacy area, call back, or have us pop it into our 24/7 collection points so you can pick it up at your convenience. We can even deliver locally if the item is bulky, needs ordering, or is for a relative or neighbour.

Next time, save a visit to your GP surgery.

If you have repeat medication, Nominate our Pharmacy with your surgery so we can receive your prescription directly. We can send you a text when your prescription is ready to collect in-store or via our 247 external collection points. You can also opt to receive your prescription at our Windsor Rd or Victoria Gardens branch.
