Saxenda alternatives
Saxenda is no longer available for private supply in the UK but may still be used in the NHS Tier 3 weight loss service. The closest alternative is Wegovy, which is the same class of drug but has the added convenience of a weekly dose.
What is the Saxenda weight loss pen?
Saxenda is a scientifically proven prescription-only medicine that contains liraglutide, which acts like naturally occurring GLP-1 hormones in your body. These hormones affect your gut and brain to make you feel full more quickly and for longer.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects tend to be mild and short-lived while your body adjusts to the medication and dose. Common side effects mostly affect the gut for the first few weeks, e.g. nausea, diarrhoea, stomach cramps and bloating.
How do I use Saxenda?
Saxenda is contained in a pen-like injector using a very fine needle it can be inserted gently into the skin on the abdomen, upper arm or thigh. Its is a DAILY injection.
Can anyone take Saxenda?
As with all medicines there are risks and benefits and there may be some people who are not able to use Saxenda. Our Pharmacist will advise.
