EAR HEALTH & WAX REMOVAL

Diagnosis & Treatment in-house

Our highly skilled team, consisting of a Pharmacist Prescriber and a Pharmacy Health Technician, offers this ear wax removal service in-house. They are trained to identify ear wax problems, such as excessive and compacted wax, and remove them using ear microsuction.

Should you require further assistance, Tympa Health’s cutting-edge video technology plays a crucial role in our diagnosis process. It guides us in determining whether to refer you to your GP or to our trusted partner ENT experts.

We can also identify if you have an infection, for which we can issue a prescription and have it dispensed at our pharmacy in Neath, or you can take it to any pharmacy of your choice. Our team will guide you through the process of getting the right medication for your condition.

What is Ear Wax?

Ear wax, also known as cerumen, is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal. It serves several essential functions:

1. Protection: Ear wax helps to trap dust, dirt, and other foreign particles, preventing them from reaching and potentially damaging the eardrum.

2. Lubrication: It keeps the skin of the ear canal moisturized, preventing dryness and itching.

3. Antimicrobial Properties: Ear wax has natural antibacterial properties that help protect the ear from infections.

While ear wax is generally beneficial, excessive buildup can lead to blockages, discomfort, or hearing issues. Professional ear wax removal may be necessary to ensure ear health and comfort in such cases.

Does the NHS offer Ear Wax Removal?

The NHS rarely offers this service, or there may be long waits. Our pharmacy is closing the gap and offering you a clinical service from experienced health professionals.

What happens during the appointment for ear wax removal?

Each appointment takes approximately 30 minutes. Firstly, you will have a short consultation followed by an ear examination.

During the examination, high-definition images and videos will be taken. This will identify any issues and determine whether you may require further treatment or referral to specialist doctors.

In most cases, the initial problem is simply excessive wax. We can then remove this ear wax by microsuction.

Ear Wax Microsuction

Ear Microsuction is the safest and most effective method for ear wax removal which is used in our clinic. This painless procedure involves no mess or discomfort, and it is performed by our experienced pharmacist or trained Technician, who use new video technology to ensure your safety.

This painless procedure involves no mess from squirting water or discomfort like syringing can.

Do I need to do anything before the appointment?

If you suspect ear wax is the problem, use an olive oil spray before your appointment – ideally for five days or more. If you have any pain or this product is not suitable for you, please get in touch with us so we can advise you further.

What precautions are there for ear wax microsuction?
